Stephen Barrett brings over thirty years of drug discovery research and development experience, including a record of success as inventor and project leader in small molecule therapeutic discovery in multiple therapeutic areas. For twenty-five years, he has acted as a patent liaison, managing intellectual property portfolios. His role has also included leading a diverse R&D organization through strategic planning, product development, and overseeing mergers and acquisitions, as well as contributing to management team training and development for over a decade.

In his capacity at Cayman, Barrett has advanced spin-out assets and intellectual property, including therapeutics, medical devices, and diagnostics, derived from the company’s core activities and partnerships. He directs the Cayman IP portfolio, manages licensing agreements, leads joint R&D collaborations, and supports external fundraising for spin-outs. Barrett also evaluates external products, technologies, and potential merger and acquisition targets, aligning them with Cayman’s strategic interests and directing in-licensing efforts.
